Job Purpose:
The Accountant will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting activities of the Portuguese Company of Joivy Group, ensuring compliance with local accounting standards, tax laws, and company policies.
This role will also provide support to the Finance Director in reporting, financial analysis, and maintaining the integrity of financial records for the Portuguese Company.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Reporting
Ensure daily ordinary bookkeeping for all accounting and tax matters
Ensure timely and accurate monthly and annual financial closing in accordance with local regulations and corporate accounting policies
Prepare and review balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports in compliance with local Portuguese GAAP
Support in the preparation of annual statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors during audits (if needed)
Tax Compliance
Manage VAT returns, corporate tax fillings, and other relevant taxes in accordance with Portuguese tax regulations
Assist with tax audits and ensure compliance with local tax laws, regulations, and deadlines
Accounts Payable & Receivable
Oversee the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, and collections
Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions and ensure alignment with corporate policies
Cash Flow Management:
Monitor and manage daily cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity for business operations
Prepare cash flow forecasts and provide insights to the Finance Director as needed
Reconciliation & Control:
Perform bank and account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and resolution of discrepancies
Maintain a high level of internal controls and financial processes to safeguard company assets
Support to Finance Director:
Collaborate with the Finance Director in the preparation of financial reports for regional management
Assist in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting activities
General Administrative Support:
Handle general finance-related administrative tasks and act as the key point of contact for internal and external queries regarding finance-related matters
Coordinate with HR and other departments to ensure payroll and benefits processing are accurately reflected in financial records
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Professional certification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, or similar) would be an advantage
Experience:
Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in an international environment
Knowledge of local Portuguese tax regulations and accounting practices
Experience in payroll processing and compliance with Portuguese labor laws
Experience in using accounting system (Oracle is a plus)
Familiarity with Portuguese financial reporting standards (SNC)
Skills:
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software
Fluency in Portuguese (native) and English (intermediate or higher)
Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with various departments and stakeholders
